PlayAbroad is partnered with universities and clubs in 17 different European countries, including The UK. At each university we have a point of contact who jumps on video calls with us, and directly supports our students and their families. These calls are instrumental, as the university representatives are on the grounds – meaning, they have insight on everything from what your dorms are like, to where to do your laundry, to attractions near the campus.
Similar to the university representative calls, we also connect our players to the coaches at the clubs and universities in consideration. This way our players can learn first hand about their coaching philosophy, their facilities, their vision for the future, and more.
With PlayAbroad you will never go in blind! You will always speak with academic advisors on the grounds, as well as a member of the club or university coaching staff!

As a generational member, you are eligible for our “Partnered Club Kickback” – where if you receive your third bill payment back in full, should you sign with one of our partnered clubs.
We recommend this package to our undergraduate players. It gives you the option to course-correct if needed, while providing an extra layer of support along your unique journey!
The silver package includes transfer support and guidance beyond your first international placement. This is a great option for players taking a GAP YEAR, for players wanting to TRANSFER to a new university, for players that want to try a new country, for players that want to look into MASTER’S PROGRAMS after their degree, or for players that want to explore PROFESSIONAL SOCCER opportunities down the road.
The fact of the matter is that, on some occasions, students don’t settle into their courses, new lifestyle, or soccer team. This is when PlayAbroad’s partnered transfer team will discuss the areas that are not working and either look to resolve them directly with the institution – or generate additional options based on the student requirements and transfer courses at hand.

Internship with PlayAbroad:
Students will have access to a WhatsApp number which they can contact 24 hours a day with concerns, questions or advice. Additionally, you will have bi-weekly scheduled calls with your own Welfare Advisor. These meetings will be timeslotted in accordance with your class and soccer schedule.
Students will lead these conversations in terms of topics they wish to raise. These calls will allow your Welfare Advisor to understand workloads, both training and academic. The content of each call will not be shared, the general topics will be tracked so monthly resources can be sent out for additional support.
Throughout the year, your Welfare Advisor will also send out feedback surveys covering a number of topics from current course specifics – to enrollment and support.
Within the first 6 weeks, your Welfare Advisor will arrange an online event for students to attend, whereby they can meet other like minded individuals, along with receiving advice and guidance on settling into your new lifestyle.

“PlayAbroad inspired hope to my soccer journey both mentally and opened it up, literally, geographically. Working with PlayAbroad was refreshing and seeing new options flow in reinstalled confidence in my college recruiting. Their communication was top-tier and their effort was unyielding. My journey led me to stay domestic for undergrad, where they still offer a massive support system. As I prepare to go abroad for my ultimate goal of graduate school, I know they’ll help me get there too.”
Background: Micah is from Minnesota and started his soccer career in fourth grade at Brooklyn Park Athletic Association (BPAA). At that moment, Micah fell in love with the game and quickly moved to Park Valley United. “PlayAbroad has been the greatest eye-opening experience! Franklin’s youth development consisted of experiences in Switzerland, Minnesota, and Florida. He played for clubs TFE EA and Florida West. From there he went on to play at Gustavus College, where he helped his team to become a top 10 DIII team in the nation.
Journey: Franklin wanted to pursue a gap year where he could develop in a professional environment. His goals were to train at the top level, maintain NCAA eligibility, and then either go back to the USA for a D1 offer – or sign with a professional club in Europe.
Outcome: Franklin found his gap year program in Valencia, Spain where he will be training for the next year. We are excited to see where Franklin goes as a 2025 D1 recruit or professional prospect!
