Yes! Every university and partner school in our network of soccer opportunities is fully accredited and internationally recognized. That means your Bachelor’s or Master’s degree will be valid in the U.S., Canada, the UK, and across Europe. Your International Placer will help you understand how degree recognition works in the countries you’re considering.

Can I study abroad in English even if I don’t speak another language?

Absolutely. Many universities in Europe and South America offer English-taught programs across majors like Business, Sports Science, Engineering, Communications, and more. Furthermore, you can also take optional local language classes if you want cultural immersion.

How long does it take to finish a degree abroad?

A Bachelor’s degree typically takes 3 years. Most Master’s degrees take 1 or 2 years depending on the country and major. Some of our partners also offer 1-year language or foundation programs. Exact timelines may vary, and your International Placer will map out what fits your plan.

Can I keep up academically while playing soccer abroad?

Absolutely! Every PlayAbroad program integrates a balanced study schedule. High School, University, and Gap Year athletes receive structured academic support, tutoring options, and guidance to maintain NCAA eligibility if needed.

Can I use U.S. federal aid (FAFSA) at International universities and soccer programs?

In most cases, your U.S. federal aid will be valid for International universities & Soccer programs. Once we short-list your eligible pathways abroad, your placer walks you through the exact financial aid steps.

Accommodation, Safety & Welfare

Where will I live abroad?

All PlayAbroad athletes live in supervised on-campus dorms or verified student accommodations that are located near an academy or club’s training facilities.

Are the PlayAbroad accommodations safe?

Safety & Welfare are central to our soccer abroad experiences. All PlayAbroad’s partnered academies provide 24/7 supervision and staff oversight. Each academy follows strict welfare and emergency protocols to ensure your child is supported at all times.

How does PlayAbroad handle injuries or medical issues?

All players have access to medical staff, physiotherapists, insurance guidance, and structured rehabilitation protocols. Your Placer also stays involved with trainers, coaches, and families.

Application Process & Requirements

How does the PlayAbroad process work?

The process is divided into four steps. You begin with a Chance Assessment call where a specialist learns about your goals. We then review your highlight video to evaluate your profile and identify best-fit opportunities. If your profile aligns with available pathways, you’ll be invited to a Membership Call where we outline your potential journey.

Do I need a highlight video to qualify?

Yes. Your highlight video or match footage is mandatory. Coaches and directors will not review any profile without match clips. Feel free to contact our team for more information.

How long does the process take?

The full process typically takes 1–3 weeks, depending on video review, academic evaluation, and communication with partner programs.

What happens after I sign as a PlayAbroad athlete?

You’ll meet your dedicated International Placer, who will guide you through building your profile, reviewing opportunities, and speaking directly with coaches and academy staff.

Can I start the application process without a United States or Canadian passport?

No. At this time, we only work with athletes who hold a U.S. or Canadian passport. Our pathways and visa processes are structured specifically for American and Canadian student-athletes.

Elite Soccer Academies: High School, University & Gap Year

What level do I need to join a High School soccer academy abroad?

We evaluate player profiles on an individual basis. Our aim is to connect you with soccer opportunities that are tailored to your playing level and ambitions. The environment suits driven players aiming to improve long-term.

Will I play competitive matches?

Yes. Athletes typically compete in 40–60 matches per season depending on the program, including league matches, friendlies, and showcase games.

Are academics affected by the training regime?

No. High School Soccer, University Soccer, and Gap Year Programs integrate education and training in a balanced & professional schedule.

Can a Gap Year Program help me prepare for college soccer?

Elite Soccer Academies: Professional Soccer

Do you guarantee trials or contracts?

We do not guarantee contracts. We guarantee access, exposure, and development. Your performance determines the rest.

Can I study during a professional pathway?

Yes. Many PlayAbroad athletes continue online coursework or language study next to their training. Our network of academies offer structured academic modules that are integrated within your training schedule.

Which countries offer the strongest professional pathways?

The UK, Spain, Germany, Italy, France, Argentina and Portugal host the deepest academy and semi-pro networks. PlayAbroad operates in all of them. Click here to learn more.

Family Assurance & Student Support

How often will I get updates about my child?

Parents receive regular updates from the academy and from their International Placer, especially during the transition period abroad.

What if my child finds academics challenging overseas?

Every program includes academic support: structured study plans, tutoring options, academic advisors, and English-taught coursework. We ensure students stay on track and understand expectations before they arrive.

What should families know before committing to a program abroad?

Families should be ready for a new culture and a structured student-athlete lifestyle. Your advisor will guide you through academic expectations, daily routines, cultural adjustments, and what your child may experience during their growth period abroad.

Soccer Scholarships & Financial Planning

Are soccer scholarships actually realistic for international players?

Yes. PlayAbroad Athletes can receive internal scholarships upon evaluation of playing level and academics. Our extensive network of partners allows us to negotiate directly with academies and universities to secure the best possible financial packages for our players. Click here to know more.

How much can soccer scholarships reduce my costs?

Many PlayAbroad families save $10,000+ per year through our internal scholarship packages. Some athletes receive even more reductions based on their soccer and academic level.

How does PlayAbroad ensure financial transparency?

We provide families with a clear, personalized cost range before committing. If a program cannot meet the financial range we have agreed upon, we simply will not place an athlete in that program. This makes the financial process predictable and stress-free for every family.

What exactly is included in PlayAbroad’s all-inclusive budgets?

All PlayAbroad programs cover tuition, accommodation, meals, training, competitions, and ongoing support. Families get to know exactly what to expect, with no unexpected costs upon their travel abroad.

Do I need video highlights to qualify for scholarships?

Yes. A highlight video or match footage is mandatory. Coaches abroad cannot evaluate your level or offer scholarship-based financial ranges without seeing you play. If you need guidance on what to include, our team can help.

Visas, Travel & Logistics

Do I need a visa to study or play soccer abroad?

You only need a visa if your program lasts longer than 90 days. Programs under three months usually do not require a student visa for U.S. and Canadian athletes. The exact visa type depends on the country, and your International Placer will guide you through the entire process so you know exactly what to submit and when.

Does PlayAbroad obtain the visa for me?

Although we do not submit the final application for your visa process, Your International Placer and soccer club/academy ensure that you prepare the correct documents and meet all deadlines for your visa application.

What are typical living costs abroad?

Our packages include all essential living costs, allowing our athletes to focus on their training and education. Any additional personal expenses will depend on the city of your placement.
